Wrongful termination is a generic term for when an employee is discharged
from employment for illegal reasons. Unless there is a contract or bargaining
agreement, employees are considered to be at-will employees, which means the
employer does not need a reason to terminate the employee. However, an employee
may not be terminated for illegal reasons, such as discrimination or retaliation.
Please refer to the other Practice Areas on our website for information on the
specific types of wrongful termination, for example Whistle-blower, Discrimination,
Retaliation, etc.
